mixer* 2nd Dec @ SUN

mixer

With pouring rain outside and no shirt from Stewart to brighten up the dark evening mashup* held it’s first Mixer* event. We learnt some lessons, i.e. don’t make the event so informal that you omit to give a start time for the keynote, do buy more beer and be brave – show outre videos from Youtube!

Chris Thorpe, @jaggeree,  gave a great talk entitled “The new raw materials and data chemistry” and kept us all mesmerized with his beautiful slides. Chris used to be a Research Chemist (who knew?!) and hence named the “Datalide” elements which  are impacting on “the way we do business, the way we vote …….. and the way we are”, as  Identium,Intentium,  Attentium and Locatium.

Comments: @cityarchitect > @jaggeree @mashupevent Super talk tonight at #sm09 Chris, insightful, amazing clarity, nice pictures.

@britano09 > @jaggeree Enjoyed your insightful and thought-provoking talk on social (not media) at @mashupevent yesterday

Prior to this Simon entertained the room with a classic video “Social Media Guru” ( Thanks MarkHamnolan) he did so with the proviso that it might not be suitable and contains swearing – see for yourselves! Needless to say it made the room chortle and I expect most people have since watched it again, and again …..

After which we had some 30 second stand ups … the idea being to pitch your needs or an “ask” to the audience – rather than an outright self promotion slot. It was interesting to see how our first standups used their 30 seconds.

Brief run down:

*From @martinrigby and @psonar the ask was 2 parts re: www.psonar.com
1. How can we make the user experience better?
2. How can we use social media better to enable Psonar to become viral?

*Zonerider.com looking for collaborators and partners

@uberlaunch ’s ‘ask’ was/is that if anyone is looking to launch a new product online, they need to give themselves at at least 3 months before launch date to set a few key things, and that they could speak to him to find out what they are… www.uberlaunch.com

*Tom Ollerton from Ale 2.0 – members are donating time and experience to charity … Wants help on how to coordinate this!  (@andrewgerrard: Awesome idea from @Ale_2point0 - collect time from experts to give to a small cash-strapped charity)

From Nicolas Holzapfel,@cojadate, If you’re like most people, you can’t be bothered to look through more than the first dozen or so posts in an online discussion. On yoomoot, you can quickly get an overview of an entire discussion. We need people to use the beta version of yoomoot and give honest feedback. www.yoomoot.com

Alex Housley from Rummble announced that they now support  Twitter’s new Geolocation API in all outbound Rummble review and check-in tweets. This enables users to share location information in an open and accessible way with anyone on Twitter, regardless of whether they are registered Rummblers.

@ahousley > Enable Geotagging here http://twitter.com/account/settings to append geotags to Rummble tweets: http://twitpic.com/rze6m

I am sure they would love your feedback too ;-)

Then after all that the pizza arrived, yum:
